Marina Papadaki (b. 1991, Piraeus) is a visual artist, raised in a working-class neighbourhood near the port of Piraeus, whose practice spans painting, installation, and site-responsive research. Marina Papadaki’s practice explores how tightly controlled social, political, and architectural systems suppress human instincts, desires, and collective needs. Central to her work is the interpretation of space and the mechanisms that shape it, materially and symbolically. Her art reflects on enduring sociopolitical questions, including sovereignty, solidarity, coexistence, and care.
She holds an MFA from LUCA School of Arts in Brussels (2018) and a BA/MA from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (2015), with additional studies at the University of Arts in Poznan (2014). She is the founder of the Hydroexpress Project (2019), which transformed her family’s five-generation plumbing store in Piraeus into a hybrid space for art, research, and community gathering. In 2019, she co-organised Deliverart, a nomadic art project that took place throughout Athens.
Her work has been presented in exhibitions, workshops, and collaborative projects across Europe, including Greece, Poland, Ukraine, Romania, Cyprus, Belgium, and Serbia. Some of them are, “Liminality”, Citronne Gallery (Athens 2024), “Exodus 1922 - 2022”, former Public Tobacco Factory (Athens 2023) “Dei Art Contest”, Old Factory of Public Power Corporation (Athens 2022), “On Ruination”, Ashkal Alwan 2022, “Bauhaus meets commons”, Goethe Institut (Athens 2019), “RE—BUILDING CASS”, Kanal Foundation (Brussels 2018), “Ode to the Sea”, Hellenic Foundation for Culture, Odessa (Ukraine 2016), “Akcja Aukja”, culture center Zamek (Poznan 2014) etc.
She has delivered talks at leading art schools and cultural institutions, including the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, the Athens School of Fine Arts, and the House of Representatives of Cyprus. Between 2015 and 2017, she led socially engaged workshops in the Psychiatric hospital of Attica and NGOs. Papadaki was a resident in the Yugoslav Monuments Research Program (CZKD) (Belgrade, 2018), supported by the Museum für Gegenwartskunst Siegen and is a 2019 SNF ARTWORKS Fellow. Works of hers are included in Private and Public Collections in Greece and abroad.
